Memories

Make Art with Mary

The next series will begin Sat. June 3  The sessions are from 1- to 4 pm for three sessions on consecutive Saturdays. Check out my profile on Opus Art Supplies for details. (I always post new sessions there.)
Some people come with a plan–a collection of images for collage and others come just to play and experiment. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to have a “playdate with Mary” but this time and place doesn’t work for you.
For this series, I’m suggesting that people bring “memories”–family photos, maps and images–perhaps even objects–that you’d like to translate into art. The piece might be a wall canvas or it might be a box to keep family photos in.

This piece is one I did from my own photos, now in the possession of my brother, who’s commissioned three additional pieces.  He started listing the people he wanted in a new piece and it began to feel like the cover art of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, so i’ve suggested three 10 or 12-inch square pieces for each focus.  You could make a collage for hanging or collage a memory box to put in your photos and perhaps journal pages.

I’ve been working on writing and making art triggered by a sibling reunion last year, and would love to encourage you to work with family memories in this way as well.

Bring some photos (or laser copies of photos). If you have maps, postcards, letters, journal writing you’d like to incorporate bring those items along as well.

At the first session you can decide if you haven’t already what size and shape of a structure you want to use for your piece.

This is a six-hour program, and is usually three two-hour sessions, but can also be built around a different format, even a six-hour retreat style workshop.

Contact me at mary@marybennett.net if you’d like to book a workshop.
